Architecture
GTA has been privileged to provide a variety of architectural solutions covering many different building types over the last 30 + years. This has included residential buildings of all types, commercial buildings, and institutional buildings of various complexities and for a variety of uses. In the photo gallery, the viewer will find a variety of interesting projects which we have designed for all regions of Western Canada and some overseas.

We have also included a section entitled "Early Work" which chronicles the development of various building projects and designs by predecessor firms owned and operated by Garry J. Tomporowski Architect. These predecessor firms include TAG (Tomporowski Architect Group Ltd.) and also PUN Tomporowski Architects Vancouver Ltd., and most recently Garry Tomporowski Architect Ltd. (GTA). Where possible and applicable, we have included the short description of the project with a few pertinent details.

Interior Design
Over the years Garry Tomporowski Architect Ltd. has provided interior design services on many of its projects. In earlier years, this included schools, nursing homes and hospitals as well as a variety of public buildings and private residences.

Most recently the interior design department of Garry Tomporowski Architect Ltd. is headed up by Rachel Clarida B.Arch, IDIBC. Rachel is not only a graduate architect but also a registered interior designer having completed the NCIDQ exams to qualify her for registration in all jurisdictions of North America. Rachel is not only a talented Architectural Designer but also has extensive experience working with Interior Design Firms in Ontario prior to joining GTA.

At GTA, we differentiate between Interior Design and Interior Decorating. Interior Design involves not only a selection of colors, fabrics and furniture components but also involves space planning integral with the Architectural Design process. Interior Design is often described as “Interior Architecture” and extends its reaches far beyond that offered by many furniture stores and individuals who have not completed a formal educational protocol.

GTA is actively involved in promoting this service to our Clients, not only in terms of existing architectural projects, but also for new projects wherein remodeling, redecorating and refurbishing is being considered to upgrade corporate images and to provide a fresh environment for employees.

We encourage existing and potentially new clients to call our office to discuss all their Interior Design needs and issues.

Master Planning
Over the years, GTA has been involved in the master planning of large sites for multiple buildings and for a variety of community uses both urban and rural. This service has ranged from recreational resort planning for individual homes and vacation retreats, to collaborating on large urban planning exercises. Of recent note is the former KSS site in downtown Kelowna, which is a multi-million dollar development on a 13 acre site. This was in consort with BKDI Architects of Calgary where GTA provided a collaborating and supportive design and review role.

Our design and planning activity also included large city blocks of integrated multi-use planning such as Hudson’s Cross in Salmon Arm. This covers site covering approximately a city block and includes commercial and a variety of residential components for different target markets. GTA has also been involved in master planning a number of large residential sites throughout the Okanagan Valley where the residential components have exceeded a hundred units.

We integrate modern design objectives with a variety of old and new world social interactions which result in a distinct “humanity” in the projects we design.

We would encourage all our existing and potentially new clients to contact our office to discuss the urban design potential of your site with our staff. This would include not only large scale projects but smaller intimate projects whose dependence on integration into an existing urban fabric requires a sensitivity that provides for a sustainable and comfortable social environment.

Building Envelope
Over the last 9 years, GTA has provided building science and building envelope services to a variety of clients. This client list not only includes our own architectural clients, but also a variety of other architectural firms and developers in the Okanagan area. Both Garry Tomporowski and Mark Felt c.c.c.a. of GTA are involved in providing this service. Both have worked extensively in the building science and building envelope realm. Mark Felt has worked for such notable national firms as Morrison Hirschfield and RJC Engineering in a building envelope and building science capacity. GTA has an excellent rapport with the major warranty providers such as Travelers and National Home Warranty. We interact consistently with these organizations to provide additional and support services to not only Architectural Firms but also for our own clients in respect to building envelope issues.

GTA provides an ongoing consulting service as well as an investigative service to various clients and organizations as well as investigation of building envelope failures, providing remediation reports and recommendations. Further to this GTA is in the process of developing a maintenance protocol for its own projects as well as those of other consultants. (On the request of the warranty providers we can prepare a five year water ingress maintenance regime which not only mandates regular maintenance and observation of critical areas of the building envelope, but also provides guidance for undertaking these particular activities.)

The range of buildings includes single family homes over $1 million in value, to multi storied high rise residential complexes and hotels.

GTA works with clients and designing consultants to ensure that the constructability of these projects is not only realistic but effective and assures that the longevity and enjoyment of these structures is not compromised. GTA works in conjunction with the Architect of Record, by enhancing the services that they provide as a third party to the project.

The photo gallery will be posted shortly that illustrates various details and experiences that we have on a variety of projects.

Technology
The technology at GTA is ever evolving to incorporate and accommodate the ever advancing tools that are available to the architectural field. The latest advancement in the Computer-Aided Design (CAD) world is the introduction and evolution of Building Information Management (BIM) software. BIM uses three-dimensional, real-time, dynamic building modeling software to increase productivity in building design and construction. Both John Schlosser RBO and Roger Rearden, B. Arch are currently in the process of incorporating BIM programs into their CAD vocabulary and are using BIM on current projects. GTA also utilizes a number of industry standard CAD programs to complete design and construction drawings.

GTA provides its Clients and Consultants the ability to share and distribute drawings and any other information regarding a project through its large capacity web based document management software.
